Actually, a usual staircase can function as an unusual staircase.

Actually, a usual staircase can function as an unusual staircase.
A staircase has its rhythm. When a staircase has a certain rhythm, it leads people further up towards a space where there is no more stair. “A staircase itself is a space, a volume, and a part of the building.”(A Pattern Language, 133 Staircase as a Stage)However, both the beginning and the end of a staircase are connected to some places. It means that a free-standing usual staircase does not exist. It is an inevitable fact, and it is possible to use a usual staircase in an unusual way. That is why it is enjoyable to see a simple corridor or a bridge become a usual staircase. We have to avoid going too far, but stairs must be used as a key to connect space to space. It is possible to make a dramatic set change happen.
